Cuban Revolution
by Burt Glinn & Magnum Photographers
On December 2, 1956, Fidel Castro sailed to southeast Cuba with an army of less than 100 men. Immediately upon arrival, he was attacked by the Cuban army, resulting in the deaths of more than three-quarters of his men. Between one and two dozen of the rebels then fled into the Sierra Maestra mountains and mounted a two-year-long insurgency against the Batista dictatorship, known as the 26th of July Movement.
